The governing regulations for portable appliance testing state that a person carrying it out must be competent to perform the procedure.

In order to prove that someone is competent, a PAT course is usually taken where a Certificate of Competence is provided to those successful candidates.

The PAT testing class in Teesside ensures that all learners are provided with a training programme which covers all the essential aspects of PAT testing in the real world.

Including practical learning elements alongside theory training, the Teesside based PAT testing class provides a comprehensive learning programme under the guidance of experienced tutors.

The course highlights the following subjects:

  • Principles of Electricity
  • Classification of Appliances
  • Electrical Dangers
  • Legal Requirements
  • IEE Code of Practice
  • Recording Results
  • How to use a PAT Tester

There are a wide range of people who choose to take up a PAT testing qualification, from experienced electrical professionals to industry beginners and those needing to test appliances at work.

Each of these groups of people has the potential to succeed on the PAT course as long as they have an interest in the subject and are prepared to study.

All successful learners will receive a Certificate of Competence once the course is completed but they will need to pass the 20 question, on book examination under close supervision to ensure a full understanding of the subject.

The PAT course runs from 9.00-16.00 and lasts one full day. It is most suitable for those with an interest in the subject matter and a willingness to learn as no prior electrical training is required. Typically, we get learners wanting to work for themselves and set up a PAT business, candidates who want to learn another skill and those wanting to PAT test their workplace.

We highly recommend learners purchase a copy of the IEE Code of Practice for future reference. However, specific reading requirements are not required.
