NICEIC ‘Jobs for the Girls’ What do you Think?

The NICEIC campaign ‘Jobs for the Girls’ was launched to encourage more women into the electrical industry and to remove the stereotype that it is a ‘man’s job’.

Electrical careers have long been dominated by men and are often still thought to be a solely male profession. However, research has revealed that many women living alone would be wary of calling in a male electrician and would prefer to have the option of calling on a female electrician.

In situations like this, the advantage of being female in such a trade would be great and would also go towards encouraging more women to enter the industry. And with the electrical industry being in short supply of skilled professionals, attracting more women to the trade should help fill the skills gap and balance out gender dominance.

However, it is not just the electrical industry as a whole. If we consider PAT testing specifically, it is easy to see that it’s an aspect of electrics which is also male dominated but which would be an ideal starting point for women moving into electrics as beginners.

The course is short and allows beginners a gentle start into the industry and provides basic knowledge which allows self confidence to grow so learners feel they can begin further electrical courses or, if they prefer, carry on with a PAT testing career.
