Government Discount for Commercial Vehicles

Green issues have become big business recently and these issues have affected many industries and businesses. Now however, those who use commercial vehicles have the opportunity to benefit from some of these changes.

The Government has this year named seven ultra-low carbon vans which qualify for a discount of up to £8000. These include:

  • Ford Transit Connect Electric
  • Mercedes-Benz Vito E-CELL
  • Renault Kangoo ZE
  • Faam ECOMILE
  • Faam JOLLY 2000
  • Mia-electric Mia U
  • Smith Electric Smith Edison

This is part of the Plug-In Van grant scheme which is aiming to increase the market for ultra-low carbon commercial vehicles in the UK.

The grant scheme is great news for anyone who needs the use of a commercial van and moves from location to location often, as it allows a saving on the purchase cost, the likelihood of a lower tax bracket and lower costs for running.

All these factors are important and especially when you consider the price of purchasing and running any vehicle has become very high, a grant scheme like this could be a real advantage to anyone taking up the incentives.

This becomes an even more attractive offer to those who travel in and work around London. This is due to the Low Emission Zone in operation in Greater London which could end up costing those with high emission vehicles, large amounts of money.

So when you’re travelling around in your van doing your PAT or electrical work, consider whether a new van using this scheme might be more cost effective for your business as a whole.

Also if you’ve already taken advantage of this, let us know we’d love to hear your views.
